Cabinet Painting
How we prepare and apply the primer and finish color.
Painting kitchen cabinets requires a multi-step process to achieve a professional, flawless
and long-lasting finish. At Sibilia Painting, we know how to paint cabinets professionally,
and follow all the procedures.
The processes we perform:
1. Disassemble and mark: As a First step, we Remove the cabinet doors, handles, and hinges,
numbering each one for easy reinstallation.
2. Preparation: We look for a place where we will work comfortably, we prepare the place by covering floors, windows and everything that is exposed, if the space is very small we improvise a place to be able to work and paint the doors and drawers of the cabinets whithout any difficuly.
3. Cleaning: We clean the cabinets with a special degreasing liquid (Purple Zep Industrial Degreaser) and water to remove grease.
4. Repair: We fill any dents or holes with wood filler.
5. Sanding: We sand all doors and drawers with medium (220) to light (3200) grit sandpaper until smooth.
Then, we dust them to ensure each door and drawer is clean.
6.Covering: We cover all parts of the drawer that won't be painted and also cover the backs of the cabinet to achieve a factory finish.
7. How we Apply the primer: We clean the surface with alcohol to remove any grease or dirt residue.
We select the right primer: We use a good quality primer that blocks stains and has good adhesion. We apply the first coat of primer and let it dry completely, then sand and clean and apply the second coat of primer.
8.Painting the Cabinets:
First Coat: We sand, dust, and apply a thin coat of finish, avoiding accumulating too much paint in one spot.
Second Coat: After a few hours, we sand lightly, dust, and apply the second coat. This procedure is performed on both sides of the cabinet doors. Therefore, painting them can take several days or even weeks depending on the size of each kitchen cabinet, but every step is important, and we know how to apply them to achieve a beautiful, smooth, and elegant finish.
